UNICEF and the World Photography Organization give six young photographers a once in a lifetime opportunity
UNICEF and the World Photography Organization are delighted to announce that six young photographers, ranging from ages 15 to 18 have been chosen as winners for their photograph and written pledge highlighting one of the five fundamental children's rights. They will be awarded at the Sony World Photography Awards in Cannes, April 22, 2010. The young winners will attend an once-in-a-lifetime trip to Ethiopia for a photographic workshop with acclaimed photographer and humanitarian, Reza.

UNICEF mobilizing for Qinghai earthquake disaster
UNICEF will send urgently needed relief supplies for children affected by yesterday’s massive earthquake. The response will be coordinated with other UN agencies. The quake heavily damaged parts of remote Yushu Prefecture, a region mostly populated by Tibetan herdsmen. The quake, which was measured 7.1 by Chinese scientists, destroyed much of the main town of Yushu Prefecture.

Three months after quake, humanitarian action in Haiti averts worse crisis for children
Three months after the devastating earthquake that rocked Haiti and left its mark on over a million children, UNICEF today reports that the unprecedented humanitarian response has averted a worse crisis for children – but warns that there is much still to be done, not least as Haiti approaches the annual rainy season.

Three months after earthquake, more children have chance to return to learning in Haiti
Less than three months after a devastating earthquake shook their lives, many children in the Haitian capital, Port-au- Prince, will begin their return to school today. The call to return to classes, led by the Haitian Ministry of Education and by UNICEF and its partners, is the first step in an operation that hopes to see more than 700,000 students back in places of learning over the next two months.

UNICEF panel discusses Haiti fit for children at donor's conference
On the eve of an international donor’s conference for Haiti at the United Nations, UNICEF and other international aid groups are stressing the importance of ensuring children, young people and their families are at the center of all rebuilding efforts. A March 30 panel at UNICEF headquarters will address the challenges children face on the long road to recovery and ways development agencies can build back better.
