American Airlines employee volunteers travel to Belize to witness UNICEF's lifesaving programs

Earlier this month, three American Airlines employee volunteers took part in a UNICEF field visit to Belize. Amy Cedarburg from Miami, Linda Feeney from Chicago and Terrell Lee from Nashville are all "Champions for Children" for UNICEF's Change for Good program on American Airlines. Donations they collected from generous customers through the program are directly helping UNICEF to save and improve the lives of children in Belize.

World malaria day 2010 commemorated by progress report and social media initiative

The U.S. Fund for UNICEF today announced that in commemoration of World Malaria Day 2010 (April 25), it will be partnering with a unique social media initiative anchored on Twitter and Facebook and meant to mobilize action toward achieving the United Nation’s goal of providing all endemic African countries with malaria control interventions by the end of 2010.

Midwest regional office of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF reaches three-year, $6.5-million goal at Message of Hope Gala

April 17 was a historic night for the Midwest Regional Office of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF, as its third annual Message of Hope gala successfully completed its three-year, $6.5-million goal for the Accelerated Child Survival (ACS) Initiative in sub-Saharan Africa. More than $470,000 was raised at the event through generous corporate and individual sponsors, ticket sales, raffles, live auctions, and a paddle raise, including a net of more than $450,000 for the ACS campaign.

U.S. Fund for UNICEF honors volunteers with President’s Volunteer Service Award

In conjunction with National Volunteer Week (April 18—April 24), the U.S. Fund for UNICEF today announced it has awarded 128 volunteers with the President’s Volunteer Service Award, a national honor offered in recognition of volunteer service. The Award is issued by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation, a group created by former President George W. Bush to recognize the valuable contributions volunteers are making to our Nation. As a certifying organization the U.S. Fund for UNICEF confers the award to recognize the outstanding achievements of its more than 24,000 volunteers.

Not On Our Watch awards grant to U.S. Fund for UNICEF to reduce maternal mortality rates in Southern Sudan

Not On Our Watch, the international advocacy and grant making organization founded by actors George Clooney, Don Cheadle, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, producer Jerry Weintraub, and human rights lawyer David Pressman, has awarded the U.S. Fund for UNICEF a grant of $250,000 to support an innovative program to reduce maternal mortality in Southern Sudan. The grant will provide motorcycle ambulances and improved maternal health care in five states of the Southern Sudan region.
