Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF celebrates 60 years of America’s youth making a difference throughout the world
For the 60th consecutive year, the U.S. Fund for UNICEF will launch its time-honored Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF campaign this fall. UNICEF Ambassador Selena Gomez, star of the upcoming summer blockbuster "Ramona and Beezus," as well as Disney’s Emmy Award winning Wizards of Waverly Place will return as Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF spokesperson.

UN and child rights experts champion universal ratification of Optional Protocols to the Convention on the Rights of the Child by 2012
UN experts called for universal ratification of the two Optional Protocols to the Convention on the Rights of the Child—on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography, and on protection for children in armed conflict—at a special event at UNICEF House.

UN convenes Global Conference on girls’ education
A conference designed to find new ways to ensure that some 56 million children—most of them girls—do not miss out on their right to education opens in Senegal today. The "Engendering Empowerment: Education and Equality" (E4) conference on gender equality and education is being organized by the United Nations Girls' Education Initiative (UNGEI) and marks the tenth anniversary of the UNGEI global partnership.

UNICEF Executive Director visits South Korea and Japan on first official trip
UNICEF’s new Executive Director, Anthony Lake, is in Japan on his first mission on behalf of the UN children’s agency. During his two-day visit he will discuss children’s rights and needs with His Imperial Highness the Crown Prince, His Excellencies Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama and Foreign Minister Katsuya Okada, as well as senior government officials, parliamentarians and other Japanese dignitaries.
