Children hard hit by violence in Kyrgyzstan

UNICEF today reported 90 percent of the refugees from fighting in Southern Kyrgyzstan were children, women and the elderly. A rapid assessment revealed that many children suffered physical and mental violence. More than 100,000 refugees are in Uzbekistan, most of whom are located in about 75 camps around the city of Andijan.

On World Day against Child Labor, UNICEF and IKEA marked ten years of a ground-breaking partnership to protect children's rights and prevent child labor. The $190 million partnership impacts the lives of an estimated 100 million children in over 30 countries, making IKEA UNICEF’s largest corporate donor.

UNICEF Ambassador Marcus Samuelsson wins season two of Bravo’s Top Chef Masters

The U.S. Fund for UNICEF is delighted with last night’s announcement naming Marcus Samuelsson the winner of the second season of Bravo’s Top Chef Masters. In addition to being a master chef, Samuelsson, is also a committed UNICEF Ambassador and was competing this season for the UNICEF Tap Project, a clean water campaign run by the U.S. Fund for UNICEF.

UNICEF announces key actions on child protection during the 2010 FIFA WORLD CUP™ and beyond

With one week till the opening of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™, UNICEF has launched a comprehensive campaign aimed at enhancing child protection and helping to ensure children’s safety as they enjoy the global football spectacular either in their own communities or on visits to any of four free FIFA Fan Fests where the children’s organization has established Child-friendly spaces.

Actress Alyssa Milano joins Kosovar children to celebrate Children’s Day 2010

Actress and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, Alyssa Milano participated in a series of activities here in the Balkan republic of Kosovo meant to give children a voice in society and promote peace and tolerance among children and communities. The events, which included sports and arts activities for several hundred children, kicked off a series of celebrations marking Children’s Day (June 1st), and were organized by UNICEF and partners World Vision and Sport Sans Frontières.
